Before running payroll for a new employee, employers need a New Starter Declaration – even if there’s no P45.
This form tells HMRC:
If it’s their first job
If they have another job or pension
If they’ve recently stopped working
Why it matters:
It helps HMRC assign the correct tax code.
Wrong info = emergency tax or underpaid tax.
Be sure to give new employees a checklist to ensure you collect accurate information from the start!
